The Guéranger Blog

Welcome to the Gueranger Blog! You have stumbled across the notebook I use to record my thoughts as I read through Dom Prosper Gueranger's 15-volume set, The Liturgical Year. I do not have any special expertise in liturgy, but I have some general knowledge of Catholic theology and an enthusiasm for Gueranger's magnum opus. Think of it as the Liturgical Year fan site!

Could it be...Blessed Dom Gueranger? News from the Diocese of Mans

Canisius | 08 February, 2006 19:36

As of December 21, 2005, the diocese of Mans has officially opened the cause for the beatification of Dom Prosper Gueranger! The official announcement reads as follows:

My French is not the best, but here's something like a translation of the above:

"On December 21, 2005, Mgr Faivre proceeded to the official introduction of the cause for beatification of Dom Prosper Guéranger. In the presence of the most reverend Père Dom Philippe Dupont, Abbot of Solesmes, he responded to the petition presented by the postulator of the cause, Dom Jacques de Préville, by ordering that an investigation be opened of the life, virtues and reputation for holiness of the Servant of God. To this end, he established a tribunal by naming the Olivier canon Jariel as examining magistrate, the canon Jean Lusseau as promoter of justice, the abbot Camille Mill as notary, and the abbot Yves Thorin as assistant notary. Mgr Faivre then indicated that the introduction of this cause was a grace for the diocese [of Mans]. 'Its happy conclusion will be still more so. Let us hope that it will not be too distant.'"
