The Guéranger Blog

Welcome to the Gueranger Blog! You have stumbled across the notebook I use to record my thoughts as I read through Dom Prosper Gueranger's 15-volume set, The Liturgical Year. I do not have any special expertise in liturgy, but I have some general knowledge of Catholic theology and an enthusiasm for Gueranger's magnum opus. Think of it as the Liturgical Year fan site!

Apocalypse Way Back Then

Canisius | 19 April, 2006 00:48

One of the prayers for the Mass of Holy Saturday contains a striking statement (VI,596): "[T]he creation of the world, in the beginning, was not a more excellent work than the sacrificing of Christ, our Passover, at the end of the world." This is bang on what the gospels are driving at: the death of Jesus was an experience of the last judgment, just as the resurrection was an anticipation of the final reward. I become more convinced with time that we cannot understand the gospel accounts without this perspective.
