The Guéranger Blog

Welcome to the Gueranger Blog! You have stumbled across the notebook I use to record my thoughts as I read through Dom Prosper Gueranger's 15-volume set, The Liturgical Year. I do not have any special expertise in liturgy, but I have some general knowledge of Catholic theology and an enthusiasm for Gueranger's magnum opus. Think of it as the Liturgical Year fan site!

Gueranger on the Gifts of the Spirit, part II

Those of you who liked Gueranger's series of meditations on the gifts of the Holy Spirit may be interested to know that his thoughts have been published separately in a book, available here . The book also has something on the gifts of the Spirit by Carlo Maria Martini , however, so think...

Ascension Day

Well, the Easter candle was not extinguished after the gospel reading at Mass this weekend. But, then again, the parish I attended this weekend was not exactly focused on rubrics. This particular church was cleverly designed. The tabernacle was handsome, but it was made out of a dark...

Blog mistake--my apologies!

I just realized that I have been duped. When I revived the Gueranger Blog a few days ago, I saw in my calendar that it was the fifth Sunday of Easter; then I went to the point where Gueranger discusses the "fifth Sunday after Easter" and picked up from that point. But there's a big...

My new motto

As a parent, I really appreciated this sign. Heck, it's applicable to politics and religion, too!

Meme time again

Sapientiae Amator hit back hard for my snarky post about his meme comment. He zapped me with ANOTHER meme. (Quick update: I looked up "meme" in my French dictionary, and it means "Grandmother." In case you wondered.) Well, here goes! 1: Black and White or Color; how do you prefer...

7X7 Meme

I had hoped to take more time on this, but Sapientiae Amator tagged me for yet another meme, so I have to hurry before yet ANOTHER comes my way. Seven things to do before I die: I'm guessing that "before I die" should be translated as "that are very important to me." Because-hey, I...

The Blogger Street Irregulars

If you would, take a moment to look over your screen. Cast your eyes on the menus to the right; scroll down and glance at the previous posts. Now, I ask you: Is there something irregular about this blog? So how does it rate this comment from Sapientiae Amator ? To quote: "I would...

Prayers

By the way, I desparately need prayers that this dissertation will get finished. Things just keep popping up to delay it. Today, for example, my wife has come down with some kind of sickness she picked up at the Health Department. (I'd laugh, but she's pretty sick.) We really, really need...

Lent and the SSPX

The parish class I was teaching had its last session last night. What a debacle! The SSPX fellow showed up again, and wrecked the entire class in his efforts to evangelize the heathen. We went around and around, unable to get a clear statement of his real problem. After some forty-five...
